spot lights and false ceilings

We have a false ceiling in our house, on the landing and down the stairs. The stairs are quite dark despite their being a light at the top. I have been given some spot lights, brand new in packet unopened from a family member who was going to fit them but now cannot be bothered. I was going to fit them on the stairs.
Read the instructions but it says nothing about whether it is safe to install them in a false ceiling, and as they get quite hot I'm concerned about it setting the tile alight.
Any advice.

[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.
