I can't remember who it was but I do once remember a Tory with a Scottish accent and a sense of humour.
He looked around nervously at the audience before starting his speech off with something like:
"I'm a bit nervous. As a Scottish Tory, I'm not used to such large audiences.................".0 -
Personally I'm quite relieved that even if Cameron does end up in Downing Street, hopefully, at least he won't be able to do a Thatcher due to not having a majority. Although I'm not particularly trusting of politicians generally, I can't help feeling that Cameron would launch a spiteful vendetta against the working class if he wasn't shackled.
No unions of any substance left to blame this time though so presumably anyone with less than two heads would be the scapegoat.
I feel that the real problem for the UK is one of a general longterm trend. From a few hundred years ago until relatively recently, it was possible to subjugate other nations - effectively exporting "the problem". Although this still happens, it's a lot harder to do it these days. It tends to be done more via money markets and large corporations. Waging war, although it obviously still happens, has become a much smaller stick - especially as the cost of such wars could end up being more expensive than the gains in natural resources. Also, it remains necessary to retain armed forces even when not deployed thus upping the cost. The nuclear threat can only ever really be a defensive deterrent. Using it in lieu of armed invasion is something that even a spiteful b1tch like Thatcher would probably not have done.
So the real answer IMO is about spreading world resources a bit more evenly. Believe it or not, we still live in one of the world's richest nations so, for us, inevitably that means a gradual decline in living standards. At least it will probably be that way until we find better ways to harness the power of the sun (that yellow thing - not the bigoted comic that pretends to be a newspaper).
So there you have the thoughts of Chairman Paul.0 -

Hello all
I voted red, usually I am a yellow, but a tactical vote to keep the Tories out locally as we were one of the seats getting lots of attention from their millions and PR spin. It worked! They showed Tooting live on TV at about 1.50 and the Tory looked gutted.:rotfl:
Missed yeserday as laptop wouldn't fire up but made a £10.35 PAD via fone banking and then £15 today so £25.35 for counting please.

Hi all
Sorry Paul I don't agree with you about Cameron being spiteful to the working class - I think you've got him mixed up with Brown- what's Brown done for us in the last 13 years??? Nothing!! What's he done for himself and his cohorts?? lined their pockets and given themselves a lovely pension pot to look forward to while he's raided everyone elses pensions! Just look at how much Blair is now worth!!! And don't forget Brown sold our gold at rock bottom prices when the bank of england advised him against selling!!!
I don't trust any politician they're all in it for themselves especially the labour party!!!
Pad today is £5 OH, £2 tin and £10 cap1
