Claiming Overtime not worked

Just curious to what you would do here.

I have noticed my Manager claiming over 100 hours in overtime a month. These hours I know are not worked.

S/He claimed she was working last Saturday in the office from 9am to middnight - I know for a fact s/he was not as I was there from 10am to about 8pm.

Should I do anything or just ignore it?

I am feeling quite annoyed about it since I was hired to help with excess the work load but this work does not really exist. In fact they are hiring another 2 more people to help!

I have no intention of staying at the company as there is no job there - but it just annoys me. Others outside the company have said to ignore it. Whilest others have said to mention it to someone on the day that I leave (after I have signed the new places contract). What would you do?

Just wanted to cover all bases :) Not sure why I did not give the sex out.

I think at this point I might just let HR know on my exit interview. (Just need to find another job first). I do NOT want to be there when this is discovered. I expect my department will be put back on time clocks, and all claimed O/T for the past X amount of time will be looked over.

The whole thing jsut bugs me. Who would not want an extra 2 and half weeks pay a month - or the bosses to be in your pocket because you are working sooooooo hard.

Certainly feel it should be mentioned, you never know they may already be aware of it and your obsverations may be just what they need prove the issue 100%

A couple of extra hours I can imagine someone turning a blind eye maybe - but THAT many?!

The company must be daft not to have clicked by now themselves.

I would report it. It' s basically stealing. Let the company know once you have your new place ready to go to. In the meantime I would be taking notes of when s/he has said they were in but weren't.

    Will sound like sour grapes.

Tip them off anonymously. However keep proof that you have done so.

They could well find out before you find another job and you could find yourself sacked as it's gross misconduct.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

  • Are you sure the manager isn't working the time from home or meetings and claiming legitimate overtime? Or maybe they have an arrangement with senior management that they can claim the overtime in return for something else. It does sound strange but could be legitimate - I wouldn't let it bother me to be honest and I certainly wouldn't mention it.

And why are you so bothered about being there if/when all past overtime is looked over? Have you been claiming dodgy overtime too?

I would definately do it anonymously. Ive come across HR departments in the past who have leaked information and the last thing you want is for to to get out that it was you that suggested this whether you are leaving or not. You never know when it could come back to bite you in the butt!! Good on you for shopping her though if it is definately the case.
