Selling a car abroad from uk to germany

i am selling my car on ebay and a man from germany wants to buy it. I have spoken to him on the phone and his english speaking friend. He is coming to collect the car tomorrow night. I have told him i want cash to avoid paypal fee's and he was not put off by this as i am wary of scams with transferring money. So i am assuming he is ligit. Does anyone know what i should do about the logbook V5. Which bits to complete etc Has anyone sold a car to a foreign person before. He is coming over on the ferry to collect the car and then returning straight back on the ferry to Germany......

If he is taking the car straight out of UK then you can fill out the export section on V5 (section 11) and send that with a covering letter stating that you sold the car on x date to Mr x from Germany who exported it that day. Then give him rest of V5.

Unless it’s a special RS6 or similar I’d be very careful

Think about it……If you were looking for a run of the mill 9 year old A6 how cheap would it have to be to persuade you to travel to Germany to buy an unseen car off germany ebay with the steering wheel on the wrong side, then import it into the UK, change the headlights, get it off the German plates and on to UK ones, get it UK registered and MOT’d etc etc?

From where I’m sitting it would have to be very very cheap, in fact I suspect even if the car was free it still wouldn’t be worth the hassle & cost given autotrader is full of UK cars starting at about £2k

Hopefully your buyer is genuine but it does seem unlikely, could well be a scam of some sort.

I'd be interested to hear the outcome

There are a huge number of cars being shipped over to Europe just go onto the Copart site and watch all the bids coming in.

As long as OP has the cash in hand and fills in the V5 not much yo worry about. My old Mercedes was bought by a Nigerian for export to Nigeria one of the easiest sales I have ever had.

I'm with viao on this one - why would a German want to buy a 9 year old RHD drive car and export it to Germany, with all the hassle that will involve. Surely he can find a LHD Audi A6 for sale somewhere in Germany or somewhere else in Europe?? How much have you agreeed to sell it to him for??

Dirt cheap compared to the german market.
    Breaking it for spares maybe.
Or just so he can tell his mates an interesting story, road trip to the uk and back.
