Halfords Car CD Player

I bought a Sony CD player for my car in June 2005. In May this year the CD function stopped working. I went to Halfords and they sent it off for repair. 10 days later I went back (they hadn't rung to say it was ready for collection but I happened to be passing the shop) and they re-fit it. It still didn't work. So they sent it off again and a week later it was fixed.
However, a couple of days ago the fault re-appeared. I went to Halfords and they said that if I had still been within the 12 months then I would have had an exchange, but as it was they would just send it off again. I argued that it has already been sent off twice and it still isn't working properly!
I'm going to go back to Halfords tomorrow and speak to the manager. Anybody got any advice for me? Thanks.

As far as i am aware the original fault was reported within the 12months and as it hasnt been fixed then it still comes under that warranty. It may be worth reading up on the goods act to see exactly what it says or try ringing CABSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

As the purchase was over 6 months ago it is down to the company rather than yourself as to how the fault is handled. However there does have to be an element of reasonableness involved in it.
To be honest, repaired twice to me is border line on if it should be replaced or if it should be "third time lucky".
Speaking to the CAB or better your legal expenses insurers on your home insurance (if you have it) will be able to tell you what is considered reasonable by the courtsAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I went into Halfords yesterday and spoke to the manager. He started off by saying that it would have to be sent off but when I made the point that they've had 2 attempts to reapir it and the initial fault was within 12 months he said I could have an exchange. So I've now got a brand new CD player (and it's even better than the one I had!) I think it shows that in this situation it always pays to see the manager. Thanks for your advice.0
