Hello!
I am soon having new bathroom and I picked travetine tiles on the floor and on the walls.
I was told that I will need good ashesive to fit it to the wall, specific for stone/travertine and lslo good quality grout.
Can anyone recommend some good stuff please?
Thank you

Mapei Keraquick in white for adhesive, For Travertine we would generally use Mapei ultra colour grout in jasmine to blend in with tile colour, Matching jasmine silicones are available from Mapei
You can not fix these tiles with ready mixed adhesive, Cement based only and in white otherwise the adhesive colour could soak into the tile and to the surface
Are the walls suitable for the weight of the travertine, Plaster walls will only take 20kg per sqm, You will need to fix to unplastered plasterboard or cement backer boardHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Thank you very much.
Could I use the same stuff for fitting a mosaic? The mosaic will be one square between the sink unit and top unit and on bath front and side (little bit between bath and wall).0 -
Yes you can use Keraquick for mosaics,

Are you installing these tiles yourself? or getting a tiler in?
I too would use Mapei adhesive and grout but if your doing the works yourself I wouldn't advise using keraquick as it is a rapid setting addy, i'd go for keraflex which will give you a longer pot life. Also when mixing ultracolour plus follow the instruction carefully add the correct amout of water and let it stand as mixing it is less forgiving than other grouts but it's a quality grout which comes in many different shades, Mapei also do matching coloured silicones0 -
Keraquick would normally sit in a bucket for 2 hours if not more before setting, No where near as rapid setting as bal
Large travertine tiles, by the time you have back skimmed you will be getting around 2-3 sqm of tiles fixed per bag so on a 60x40 thats only 8-12 tiles per 2 hoursHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I wasn't questioning you Andy I just think for a DIYer it would be easier to use a non rapid addy - If the OP is mearly supplying the materials then Keraquick is a good choice. As you will know Mapei isn't the cheapest of products on the market and if waste can be avoided due to mixing too much and it setting then it would be better no?
A DIY tiler will not work as fast as a professional so only trying to make it easier. But as stated it might be supply only, in which case I stand corrected.
In addition the Travertine would need top be treated OP0 -
Sorry to interrupt. We are looking to retile our bathroom later in the year. We will also install a shower. I like the look of travertine - but have no idea of cost or where to get them.
We will use a professional tiler. Any tips or cost indicators for supply and/or fit per mtr would be appreciated.0 -
CTD do a trade travertine for around £16+vat, This is full of holes the back as does have dark veins
A good quality marble type(solid) travertine can be bought for around £25 for medium shade, Lighter the tile the higher the price with a good superlight coming in at around £80 per sqm
Avoid internet firms as you dont really see what you are buying and asking for a sample is a waste of time as they can be very selectiveHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0
