New tenants require internet

Hi
I have new tenants moving in to rent my flat and they require broadband. There is currently no active phone line so how much would it cost roughly for the line to be active for broadband only? I dont want them to use the line for phone calls as they may rack up huge bills. Is it possible to have a Data only line? The previous owners had a BT line but this has been stopped in the flat
Also, is BT the only company that can set activate the line or can I go through any of the broadband companies?
Thanks

your tennants should pay for the phone line to be installed and for the internet and the calls
you need an active phoneline for broadband

Unless you have told them that there is a phoneline installed (or will be one) then it is up to them to get it put in, just like its up to them to pay the line rental.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0

It would either be BT or Virgin, and I agree its up to your tenants to put it in themselves..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

You have to accept that your new tenants are adults .... you're trying to restrict them like children. It is up to them, however, to get a line/broadband sorted out. New line from BT is £125 connection charge. Maybe they can look at the Sky or cable routes if they're available.0

If your tenants don't pay there phone bill it is of no consequence to you. If they want Broadband let them get on with it. If you are in a cabled area then the property may not even require a phone line.

So if they pay the connection charge and monthly broadband, phone calls, should the line be in their name?0

It is their responsibility. They can either pay to have a line - as we have done in the past - or choose mobile broadband, not quite so good but ok. You are not liable for their bills, so stop worrying. I suspect you're a first-timer ... can I also suggest you get yourself educated about what is and is not your responsibility?Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

PlusNet will reconnect a phone line that still has a dialling tone for free. Let the tenant organise and pay for everything, then they are legally responsible for any bills.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Don't even THINK about putting the phone line in your own name!0
