:j We are all off to the cotswolds for a week:j
Is there anyone from that area who can give me some insider info on good days out?
I've 2 girls aged 14 & 12 - although my 14yr old is very young for her age
We are staying near Cirencester and although I'll be looking on the net for things in and around the area I thought some of you may have some 'good places' you've been to and some 'ooo, dont go there it was a waste of money' tips.
Thanks in advance

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

South Cerney Water Park is great, it's like the beach without the sea
You can't miss Bourton on the Water, there is loads to do there, Birdland, the model village, the motor museum (where Brum lives) and the Perfumery. In the middle of summer the river (big stream really) is filled with kids paddling and having a great time.
Just up from there you have the Cotswold Farm Park and the Cotswold Wildlife park. The Corinium Museum is in Cirencester itself and shows the roman history of Cirencester and the Cotswolds.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

My wife and I just returned from a week vacation in the Cotswolds and did it on a shoestring budget. I used this website to locate and book three days Super Saver rooms with Travelodge, then spent three days with family in that area. My biggest recommendation is to get a membership with the National Trust and then hit the NT sites.
There are tons of houses and gardens in that area and around Oxford that I am sure your girls would enjoy.
All National Trust members get free parking and free entry year round. It's a great bargain for a family, and lasts the whole year so you can go back again and again for FREE, yippee!
My wife and I picked up the brochures for some of the attractions in the Cotswolds and they are very expensive. For a family, they are outrageous.
I would suggest National Trust and then throwing in a few of the more expensive theme parks or petting zoos as an occasional treat.
Bourton-on-Water has a river that runs right through the Cotswold stone village where folks can dangle their feet in extremely cold river water. There are little shops for mom and ice-cream for kiddies, and birdland is right around the corner, but again you wind up dropping some serious cash in these theme parks just to look at a bunch of silly birds. Then the kids start whining for ice cream, soda's and lunch and you may as well take out a mortgage.
There is Hidcote Manor/Gardens near Chipping Campden which is free to NT members, Waddesdon manor in Bucks, great place to have a picnic, kick a ball with the kids and lots of gardens, rose garden to roam and have fun for free. Be sure to take a large cooler, fill it with bags of ice from Sainsbury's and keep cold drinks that can be shifted from car boot to smaller backpack to keep girls fed and watered while avoiding expensive cafe' and long queues. Also make your own sandwiches, and take bags of crisps and treats and save money!
Blenheim Palace in Woodstock near Oxford...not National Trust, but worth a visit.
Have fun!0
