I am about to do some paining. Currently we have a smooth wallpaper, which is still in gd condition (no rips etc) so wondering whether to take it off and waste 2 days doing it or just put 2 coats of paint on it?
Any suggestions? many thanks

I normally slap a coat of cheap brilliant white emulsion on first, to mask the paper and just provide a "base coat". Then put two coats of the final emulsion on.
It's not thorough, but if you simply want to change the colour with paint, it'll probably do.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

If your paper is in good condition & doesnt have a bold pattern on it, it should look fine. Next time you decide to redecorate I would strip it down though as the more you paint on it, the worse it looks & the harder it is to come off when you decide to strip!0

thanks very much thats what i will probably do then
the wall paper is near white anyway, so it should be fine

Hi, don't wet the paper too much with the paint as this will cause the glue on the reverse to bubble and can look awful. Is it vinyl by any chance cause its murder to paint? I would (if the walls are in good condition underneath) always strip it back.0

i would normally strip it down, but due to the lack of time and loads of other things I need 2 do (new place) would like it to look ok for a couple of years and hen do it properly, but dont really want to put up with the current wallpaper. and no its not vinyl. thank you0

Should be fine then. Get painting!!! I can recommend the dulux realife paints and they really are scrubbable too. Last far longer than any normal paints we have found.i would normally strip it down, but due to the lack of time and loads of other things I need 2 do (new place) would like it to look ok for a couple of years and hen do it properly, but dont really want to put up with the current wallpaper. and no its not vinyl. thank you0 -

If it does bubble as you paint it don't worry it will flatten out as it dries.0

as above. id always strip it off for a proper long term job.
i have painted over wallpaper before, but only as a short term jobby. ie if money was tight or i was selling up soon.
the time factor is not really a big isssue as a few evenings (max) work takes care of it.Get some gorm.0
