HP Pavillion TX laptops

Ive been looking at this TX1000 and ive been wondering if anyone knows of any serious drawbacks the laptop has?

I do really like portability and while netbooks have that covered, i do love having a CD/DVD drive, it just feels like having my arm cut off without one.

so the one i found above is probably the bets priced one i could find, but do you think the crack in the case would affect the hinges? ive never seen any of the TX's before so i dont know where the hinges are.

cheers

Personally I would not touch HP with anything but a flame thrower. We got 2, both developed faulty motherboards at 13 months. HP not interested. Have come across this same story countless times going back 3 years with various models. I'm sure others would disagree, but just type "Hewlett Packard faulty motherboards" into search and see what comes up. Fortunately Tesco refunded me half the purchase price so I've not lost everything.

ive had a hp mini 1000 before now and had problems with the screen but never motherboards, i suppose i could have a look about to see if that specific model had many problems.

if not the tx1000 any other contenders? the tx2000 is way out of my price range

A refurbished model may, curiously, be the better buy as if it did have motherboard problems it would have been replaced. The problems have been mainly: wireless, webcam and restarting after sleep.

The TX1000 and 2000 has known "issues" with overheating and the nvidia cards of that generation. the TX2500 is ok tho (they switched to ATI)

I wouldn't bother really, even replacements parts are just another timebomb.

Turion runs very hot, and as such the TX's are usually quite hot and noisy to use.

again wouldnt the tx2500 be stupidly expensive? I cant even seem to find anywhere that sells them, online at least.

    anyone got any more suggestions?

ive had HP's before and the only problem i had was when someone decided to give theirs a glass of wine, but im looking at the tx's in particular because i like their styling, ive seen a tx2050 for a similar price and is in a similar shape, i also saw an acer 5920G with an 8600m GT, now im not exactly a heavy gamer, but that will do for what i want to do and just for a smidgeon over £200...

problem is the item ends in a week, i doubt ill get any money by then :(

TXs are expensive because they are tablet PCs, they are not really in the range of budget laptops. you probably wont find a 2500 as it was only on sale for 6 months after which it got replced by the TX2.

You will get better value by looking elsewhere.
  • Am using a TX2000 right now to post this. Very well built and well spec'd PC with a very nice feel to the keyboard. Really good for multi media with the infra red remote control. Love the tablet option, able to turn and tilt the screen.

I don't seem to have any problem with the Turion overheating or noise. Overall, of the various laptops I have (Dell Inspiron 1300, an Acer and an E Machines, as well as a Sammy NC10 laptop which is brilliant for other reasons) it is the best laptop I have had.
