Cheque Query

Hi,
I have a query about paying in a cheque. I'm going to be recieiving one for a fairly substantial amount of money from my late grans estate this week. Now I have the basic Alliance and Leicester account where you can pay things in at the Post Office, so my quetion is; is there a limit to the amount I can pay in at the Post Office (I've checked their website and can't see anything) , and if so do I need to call my bank to advise them that I'm putting the cheque in so they won't freeze my account because of "irregularities" (as they have before)?
Thanks in advance for any advice
Ross

From memory, cheques paid into A&L accounts at Post Offices have to be accompanied by a paying-in slip and an A&L deposit envelope, which is then forwarded to A&L, so the amount of the cheque shouldn't be a problem.0

Why not ask for a BACS payment ??
Its in your account quicker and a darn sight safer than a cheque.
It will not be the first time A&L have lost a cheque.
Cheques are history now.0 -

Also a BACS payment from a firm of solicitors will remove any doubts as to where the money has come from.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -
Thank you all for your advice it's appreciated; I'll ask the solicitors about the BACS payment tomorrow.
Thanks again.

They will probably do a CHAPS payment for you and deduct £30 for their trouble.
Why not walk into any bank that you like with ID and open a proper account.
Depending on the value of the cheque they will roll out the red carpet for you.0 -
This is very true, even with very small amounts. When Halifax glimpsed a £4000 cheque (which isn't exactly a huge sum of money), they suddenly changed their mind from needing an appointment to opening my account there and then (back in the days of 6.5%!) I was even offered a cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate whilst I waited for the advisor (sorry, I mean salesman) to photocopy my documents. I've found they also call you by name at the counter if you have more than about £2000 in the account. It is always "Yes Mr X, no Mr X, three bags full Mr X" and "Are you sure there isn't anything else I can help you with today Mr X?"jonesMUFCforever wrote: »Depending on the value of the cheque they will roll out the red carpet for you.0 -

Christ I'd love to bank where you bank!
I'm lucky to even get a smile.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0
