fuel cards are they any good?

I don't know much about them but I doubt it will be the best way forward. Some Credit Cards offer you money off fuel (very small) and a Shell Drivers Club card offers some money off too.
There is a guy who has been trying for years to get a discount card off the ground with little or no success.

I think they are best for companies where staff need to buy fuel often but they want to make sure it is only for the companies car. In your position I would just look for the best cash back card?0

Fuel cards are good if you do your own books, and your accountant will surely appreciate only having to examine one monthly statement for your fuel usage.
Other than that, and having fewer receipts to hold on to, they're not really any different from a credit card.
Total used to do a fuel card that allowed all station services - food, drink, etc, but the most they do now is fuel and oil.0 -
hi i used to work in a petrol station (texaco ) who have a loyalty card and also take most brands of fuel cards, as we were near the docks we had a lot of freight lorries coming in for diesel but the savings on these cars was only about 1p per litre and it varies month to month, a lot of the regular drivers/companies found it cheaper to fill at morrisons or tescos using cash rather than the fuel cards, in my opinon if your spending £400 a month on petrol your better off filling up at the supermarket than getting a card, unless of course you want a bill at the end of the month which if not paid on the day is generally stopped, often leaving motorists stranded.Tesco offers the best points on their clubcard..hth0

Are they any good? yes and no, they can make life simpler, but they can make it more expensive as well. A common trick with virtually all of them I have dealings with is to offer you a very good ppl rate to start with, but then it will keep creeping up as you use the card more and more. Some people use 2 or 3 different cards and only use the cheaper of the 3 in any particular month, then wait for the new rates to be published before deciding which card to use next.
So I would say you need to keep a very close eye on the ppl rate as this does change frequently!!0
