No account details

Guys,

I am trying to reclaim my credit card charges and PPI, but several companies are now returing my original letters highlighting I have not included account details and they have no trace of me having an account with them, although it clearly states on my credit report that I did have and I know for fact I did. I disposed of my credit card paperwork when I took out a big loan to pay them off, so I don't have the original account numbers. What advice can you give me to trace these account numbers and pursue the charges.

How did you pay for them? Was it Direct Debit or online payment?
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

    Hi there

In regards of the PPI reclaiming, check any old monthly statements, the account number should be shown on them.
Is this account now settled/paid of or still active?

Did you give them as many personal details as possble in order to make it easier for them to track down your information, if you used to have a different address prior to where you live now, when you taken out the Credit card that may help by giving them the details of any old addresses, and your date of birth, surnames and so on.;)

  • All the accounts are settled and I ditched the paperwork so no longer have the account details, I gave them my full name and address which has not changed in ten years. two wrote back replying they required ten pounds to look into this, but i know there is an article in the forum regarding this. I always paid at the bank with the giro slip as at that time I did not trust them with access to my bank account. Lloyds wrote me a super letter back regarding my PPI on a loan which I had, saying I was wasting my time trying to reclaim back the £4500 and there would be no further correspondance from them. Well here we go again.:rotfl:

    Hi there.......:D

May I ask how long ago this was settled?

If within the last 6 years then I'm sure they should still hold details on you but if normally a SAR (Subject access Request) has to be requested where they should comply and send all they hold on you by 40 days, this is the one where they do require a payment of £10 postal order or cheque payment.
Check this SAR out here (template) letter:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1475553
In general they MUST comply to this if they don't you can complain to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO):
    https://www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx
If they cannot do this then they must return your payment with a letter of a full explanation of why they could not do this.

But normally your data would be held for the last 5/6 years.
However, last year I requested a SAR from LLoyds and I was lucky to have received my information of all I taken out with them going back as far as the late 90's.

Again if you banked with the ones who lent you the finance, and want to request for a SAR, then all you do is give your bank account number details and everything when they are searching for your data comes up, so if you had loans and/or credit cards with them - these details will then arrive to you by 40 days, with account numbers of all accounts of all included.

For some of my claims I have had to request a SAR, just to get details of my account numbers of loans etc.

With the PPI, I would personally write back to them again until you receive a final decision, LLoyds are well known to turn down reclaims on PPI, I have quite a bit of experience with them and all have finally gone in my favour in the end, but if they do not resolve in your favour by the final decision, then they should also enclose details of the financial ombudsman service (FOS) where you can move your complaint on to them to investigate.

Hopefully, if you do decide to want to request a SAR, they must oblige to this, on the ICO link I posted above, you should find useful information on that website.;)
