Office shoes, coating peeled off after less than 1 day of wearing

Last weekend I bought a pair of shoe boots from Office, I wore them for the first time yesterday to work, I did nothing out of the ordinary, drove to work (I'm a web designer so office based), drove home at about 3pm, took my boots off and noticed that on the toe of both (they are slightly pointed) the attractive dark silver colour had peeled off leaving an area on both shoes about 2 cm accross with nasty looking black underneath. The boots now look as if they have been worn for months and are no longer smart enough for work.

Do I have any rights to a refund? Surely shoes should withstand normal wearing for more than a day especially when they were £60!?

I'd think you'd still be in time for a full refund as you've only worn them the once and can quite rightly argue that its within a reasonable time to fully reject them under the Sale of Goods Act.

One problem could be that people have been known to buy a second pair of shoes to claim a refund on a pair they've been wearing for quite some time. I'm pretty sure that Office will offer a full refund but you may have to make do with a credit note.

A quick point, driving some makes of car in pointy shoes can cause this problem, especially if your feet are a little on the larger size.

She doesn't have to "make do" with a credit note if the shoes are faulty, she'd be legally entitled to a full refund.

Not if she's accepted them and you're returning as faulty. As williham says the shop has the option to repair/replace as well.

Thanks everyone, I've juse been back to the shop, all ready with my SOGA defense and the lady who sold them to me was there, I explained what had happened and showed her the boots and she refunded no questions asked. Much easier than I had expected it be be after what I've read so I am very grateful as I hate taking things back and was a bit nervous. She offered me a replacement pair originally, but although they were very comfy, I didn't fancy having to go back and do the same in another weeks time! Thanks for all the info!

Acceptance after 1 day? Not a chance.

They will refund. As they are obliged to.

Acceptance is within a reasonable period of time - she deemed them acceptable/usable for work, sounds like acceptance to me. Also if you read more carefully you will see the op has owned them for at least 6 days (bought last weekend, worn first time yesterday).

acceptance is when you have managed to test the goods and find any faults basically, you then accept their condition when you have tested them. One day of work will not be regarded as accepted as the OP has found a fault as fast as near possible considering the fault. No way was acceptance made, refund was due.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

1 week isn't a reasonable period of time!!!!

The fact remains they became faulty on the first occasion. Try and keep up.
