Washing machine leaving marks on clothes?

My washing machine came with my flat as it was furnished when I moved in, but it is increasingly causing me problems.

It has left rust-coloured marks on several black items that I cannot get out, and yesterday didn't completely drain of water, soaking my kitchen floor.

My landlords attitude? "Yes, it's been like that for a while, I don't think it'll change any time soon."

What can I do?
*proud to be dealing with my debts*

Check your filter, I had a 1p in mine and it would do the same.
The filter on mine is on the front at the bottom. I have to open a flap and unscrew it.

securityman is right, this sounds like the filter. But be sure to only check when the machine is empty!!
  • hi i started a similar thread a a couple of weeks ago .. slight "rusty" spot marks on shirts , sheets etc . I emailed Bosch ... got this first reply ...

    Thank you for your email.....
We hope to be able to offer you this simple solution to your problem.

When washing at a low temperature (40-60'C) some of the detergent used can
remain undissolved. When this is combined with dirt and skin particles from
clothing etc. It forms a grey looking substance that can build up around the
drum, in the rubber door seal and detergent drawer. (The grey substance can
dislodge and appear on your laundry.) This in turn attracts microorganisms
that can cause a black marking and fungal growth effect and a bad smell.

In order to remove this, what you need to do is perform some maintenance
    washes in your appliance.

Run the machine empty on a 90'C wash programme and use half the amount of
detergent you would normally use and preferably a biological one. (You may
have to perform this wash up to 6 times in a row, one after the other in
order to remove the build up completely if it is quite bad). Take out the
detergent drawer completely and give it a good clean with a sterilizing
fluid such as Milton Fluid. Clean the aperture that the drawer has come out
of with Milton Fluid also; pay particular attention to the top where the
water comes through from (Maybe use a toothbrush or similar small brush).
You should find that this will solve the problem completely.

In order to prevent future build up it is advised that a maintenance wash be
performed in your appliance every three to six weeks, dependent on use.

as this didn't refer to the rusty mark problem i had .. i emailed them again.
    Their reply was..............

    thank you for your email

If you do not think it is redeposition, it could be that you have a coin or screw or something else either in the pump area, or between the inner and outer drum. If you do not find anything in the pump area. We would advise you to book an engineer. Please call 08705 678910 or mks-servicerequest@bshg.com

i reckon this is more likely . Shame they didn't goive me any ideas on what i need to do to check for this .... and haven't had time to pull the washer out and investigate yet.

We had the rust like marks but only on occasions and my wife wanted to change the machine, which seemed an expensive solution but now the spin function has broken too and the machine is 7 years old a new one is on its way. We will keep a print of these details particularly the one immediately above as could come in handy.
