My Bankruptcy Diary

Hello

My bankruptcy becamer a reality on Thursday 4th March. Got the letter from the court specifying the OR will contact me that day between 2:00-4:00. It also stated the OR would need bank details, house details, etc and would take approximately 10/15 minutes to complete. At that point, I began to panic - I couldn't discuss this at my desk, I work in an open office and to stand outside for 15 minutes, would not be appropriate.

So decided to work from home, as I am able to do that occasionally (lucky me!!!!) but call never came :-( and when I phoned them, the nice person aid it wasn't on their system yet, so they couldn't go through the steps mentioned in the letter. I was told it would be tomorrow (Friday). Well, couldn't work from home a second day, so knew I would just have to take the route of answering and standing outside my office discussing my financial affairs with my little notepad for reference. GREAT....

Friday ends, no call from the OR. It's a good job, I had made necessary arrangements for my money to be in my wife's account otherwise I would be penniless ( aswell as insolvent!).

So I am sitting here today (Sunday - day 4) wondering if I will get that call tomorrow or not). I have looked up my name on the Insolvency Register and its not there, so wonder if the OR will make contact once I am on that register.

I wonder how long others have waited before the OR made contact from Manchester 'A' ?

As for my creditors, It was great to phone them after I was made bankrupt to inform them of this fact. Not great to admit I was at this position, but great to know I was no longer going to be hounded by them. They were all polite and professional on the phone, it was great to have no nasty calls since Thursday and no letters since then - I expect I wil still get some letters but now wont panic when I see letters adddressed to me with those words 'private and confidentail'. ;)

I went bankrupt in Norwich last Monday (4 March) and still not received the phone call from OR. I phoned them last Thursday and they said that it wasn;t on their system yet too.
I was told I would get a call within two days of going bankrupt when I was at the court.
I know I live in a completely different part of country to you, but perhaps the Official Receivers are inundated at the moment. I know the costs of going bankrupt are going up considerably as from April so maybe people are trying to go bankrupt ahead of this change?

it can range, from speaking to them at the court to several weeks after, but most are within a week

    Hi icm,

Congrats on your BR and your debt free future.

I also went BR last week, on Wednesday at Chelmsford CC. I received a call from the OR on Thursday but it was just a brief call, lasted about 5 minutes. They just wanted to confirm a few details and if there was any urgent matters I needed to discuss. I mentioned about my bank account and house.

The first call is normally just to set up the "interview" call, mine is next week and it's this call that takes about an hour. This will be when they discuss your SOA in detail so don't worry about the first call as it wont be that long.

Hope it all gets sorted out for you soon.

    All the best,

    David

Thanks, I see now that I am not the only one waiting. Maybe the courts need to update the letter handed out.

that is probably not going to happen, if you look on the bottom of your bankruptcy order it will say something like "you must attend immeadiately upon the Official Receiver" that hasnt been accurate for the last 10 years:D

YIPPEE, the OR finally made contact yesterday, left a message asking me to contact her this morning to arrange a telephone interview. So glad as want to get this sorted asap.

I know I have some surplus income for an IPA and in some respects pleased I can pay something back, just want it sorted now so can see if we will be allowed a little holiday fund for a trip up to Scotland later this year perhaps.

Startign day 5, today I speak to my OR. :D

Spoke to my OR. I have a telephone interview Friday afternoon. This initial telephone call was only 5 minutes. Just to make sure I had sorted a bank account and a quick discussion on assets. In my none.

I hope by the end of my telephone interview I can move forward. I know I will be in an IPA and hope the figure can be sorted during this interview.

Worst part was telling father-in-law. Knowing I had let both his daughter and the family down by my financial mess.

Spoke to my local court today to get rough idea of timescales and they said that the system is in overload with everyone trying to get their BR before the end of the month. So, do expect delays as it must be having a knock-on effect with the OR.

Hello icm, you haven't let anybody down. You've been strong enough to deal with your fiances now and that's what counts. Well done step 2 out of the way....step 3 O.R. interview just be honest and don't feel the need to fill in the pauses and of course keep breathing!

    All the best
