Building regs approval recieved.

About 5 weeks ago we applied for building regs approval to convert a extension into a habitable room. We did the application ourselves, drawings/plans, U value calculations and all the details.
Last week we received the planning regulation approval, i'm really pleased that we did it all ourselves which means the only costs was the fee to the council :-)
A good bit of money saving i think and it goes to show that the average person can do a full building regs app by themselves :T

When I built my house I did the plans on the back of an Admiralty Chart. It took quite a lot of reading up from various books that I bought from The Building Centre, but it all got approved alright.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Jolly well done indeed. I drew my own plans for a building notice application, but to do it for a full plans application is definite a step up! Just goes to show what can be done, though, doesn't it. :T0

If you are applying via Building Notice, then there is no need for plans - unless requested to detail some unorthodox construction method
Fair play to the OP, but for a garage conversion a Building Notice is normally the best thing to do, so as to avoid wasting time/expense on unecessary plans. The BCO is only really looking for two or three things0 -
We opted for full plans so that they can agree it all before we started so that we wouldn't start something and have to change it, and it doesn't cost any more to do full plans to a notice so we thought best be safe and have it all agreed up from.0
