Help - Credit card payment trouble

I have a friend who's missed a couple of payments on her credit card (Barclaycard). She's just revealed to me that she's in real money problems - I don't know the full extent yet. Barclaycard have given her account to some company called Mercer as she's not told them that she's got money problems.
I've advised her to see the CAB asap and ensure that she keeps up the rent and council tax payments.
She now wants to know what to do with Barclaycard - should she tell them she's got troubles?
She's tried to ring CAB but can't get through so far too.
Any help/advice gratefully received - and apologies if I've put this in the wrong forum.
Thanks

talking to CAB would be a good thing, preferably before speaking to barclaycard.
she should also talk to barclaycard, although they will probably refer her to the debt companysmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Take onboard Martin's article here:- http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1103204730,72152,
There are other free debt help organisations mentioned in the Debt Counselling sub section.
