Hmm well I'm new and in a mess too so hopefully the experts will be here to give solid advice shortly but if I were you I'd be looking at:

30 clothing budget- I suppose thats for the kids and you can't stop them growing out of things?

200 seems like an awful lot of fuel? And do you need 2 cars? could someone car share to work??

70 car insurance looks quite high, just thinking mine is 24/month fully comp so even for both of you that would be 48? Obviously I don't know your circs fully but might be worth a look.

50 entertainment and 200 holiday- can you live without these?

Is your electric monthly? If so, that's outrageous! Make sure you switch stuff off at the mains and not leave on standby.

In terms of life assurance, house & contents etc can you get in touch with your mortgage company and see if they will do a deal? I pay an extra £17pm on my mortgage which includes life assurance, house and contents etc and has as good a cover as any other and it's included in my mortgage payment so don't have to worry about it every month. Might be worth a try.

It makes me chuckle that you think that electricity is high mine is £120 a month and was £173 and SP said it was right, thats just what people pay for being all electric.
If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)

Hi, Well done on making the first step - I think just facing up to the fact that you're in debt is a good thing. :T

I'll echo what the others have said - your insurance does seem high, but there's not much you can do about this until it's time for renewal, so just check out some comparison sites then.

I don't know how old your children are, but I got mine on side so they know not to ask for things they want - only things they need - it's amazing how theycan persuade themselves they NEED so many things:)

You're lucky that you do have money left after you've paid the bills for overpaying. Stick with us - if you've read some of the other threads, you'll see some great ways of generating extra cash. And remember we're not here to just give advice - we are here to encourage - the best thing I ever did was start a diary:)

    Good luck!
Proud to be dealing with my debts,

Although it does put the house at risk. Many here would not recommend this approach.

You've been given some great advice here. Now I suggest you break it down into two stages:

Step 1: Do you really have £141 left in the bank at the end of the month (plus the money towards MOT etc)? If not get a spending diary, write everything down, read old bank statements etc and work out where this money is going. You may need to repost an updated SOA.

Step 2: review the advice you've been given above and look at updating your SOA with credit card debt details, reviewing holiday situation etc.
