I wasn't advocating turning their local Tesco into a skid-pan; I merely suggested doing it on a car-park rather than a public road in case something did happen.
I thought you were suggesting some boy racer type driving in the car park to see if the tyres would squeal!!
Apologies for the misunderstanding but I still reckon driving quickly in any empty car park would lead to some questions from the boys in blue is spotted.
Probably best to avoid that one!!

Sorry;) Have had similar tho on a roundabout with empty 7.5tonner, rear wheel drive on a wet road.
But I think in your case I would get the steering checked. Once maybe down to road conditions/your driving but a couple of times!!
was it you who was behind me??If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

Chances are that something was on the road (diesel most likely) which caused the rear wheels to lose traction.
That sounds exactly like what happened. I will ask the garage to check the car over too just incase. It wasn't icy so definitely not ice but diesel does sound like a likely culprit.
lol at Darich. A female in her 30's in a pensioners motor - definitely not a boy racer! If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

Trying to get any kind of speed up on the Kingsway is a non-starter....ruined by the "traffic calming" fascists!!0 -
Car has possibly fatal steering fault, do you
(a) take it straight to a mechanic before it fails and you kill yourself or someone else?
(b) stick a thread on a forum?
:think:0 -

How would I know it is a possible fatal steering fault?
I took my car to the garage a while ago due to a beeping noise that I could hear but was told that it was unlikely to be anything serious but that diagnostic testing that would run to £100's could be done to put my mind at ease.
This could have been something similar or like other posters have said, it may have been a spill on the road. I prefer to be forearmed before going into things.
I bet your local garage love you if you go in everytime something out of the usual happens. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

Get real P
Get Real?? Me, get real?
Yes, you're right - better to rely on the opinion of an armchair mechanic like yourself rather than one out in the "real" world....0
