I am more confused now that ever, how about McFee

No need to be confused. For the majority of home users, free anti-virus and firewall programmes will work just fine and, best of all, they're free, gratis and without cost:D You can disappear up your own rear end worrying about it. Just make sure you have a well-regarded programme that updates regularly and is free and your computer will be fine.

My vote still is with AVG for anti-virus and Zone Alarm for a firewall. I've been using both for some time now -must be years. never had a problem, the computer works fine and they are free. What more can you want?

    AVG:

    Zone Alarm:

You might also want a spyware remover:

    Should be sorted now;)

Savapoint are selling the OEM version of Norton Internet Security 2006 (complete with certificate of authenticity unlike most Ebay sellers) for £24.99. There's a £5 off a £10 spend code floating around which brings the delivered cost to £19.99, plus if you go through Quidco you get £1.50 cashback - effectively £18.49 in total.

I've just installed this to replace AVG and Zone Alarm - which work perfectly well, but I think Symantec respond quicker to provide protection against new threats. For the same reason, I decided not to install the free F-Secure package offered by Barclays.
