Built-in cupboards - how much?

I'm based in Coventry, have an Edwardian terraced house with alcoves each side of fireplace, and am keen to have a wardrobe fitted into one of these, also a small cupboard constructed to box in my combi boiler in kitchen. Alcove approx 30cm deep * 2.5m high * 80cm wide. Had a quote of £500.00 from a handyman for the wardrobe, but not used him before and would like a good job done - not sure he's great. That quote was reliant on me supplying materials. To be honest I'd rather pay for them to do that as I know nothing about woodwork and would like a neat, sound job. Two questions: do I look for a carpenter, a joiner or a builder or handyman? And any idea how much it would cost? Any tips on finding skiled carpenters etc useful as not had much luck in this area so far. Thanks.

Word of mouth recommendation is best if possible. A carpenter/joiner would be the best person to get for the job you require.

In London a decent tradesman costs on average £250 per day, so by those terms the £500 you were quoted sounds pretty reasonable.
