Tile Paint

We've decided against a kitchen refit and are going to spruce up the existing instead on a small budget. The only thing that lets the otherwise acceptable elements down are the pastel faux-mosaic wall tiles, so thoughts turned to tile paint. I did a forum search but no joy.
My experience of tile paint is that it is on the whole rubbish, never used it but Mr P lived in a rented house with painted bathroom tiles which flaked and looked terrible.
That was some years back though and I was wondering if there had been any improvements in tile paint, has anyone found a wonder-product they can recommend? Any other ideas to tackle this problem on a really tight budget?
Thanks all

We have used tilepaint on a customers (landlords) bathroom as they didn't want to go to the expense of retiling.
We did exactly as the manufacturers instructions: pva'd the tiles, then used a tile primer/undercoat and then tile paint.
Within 6 months it was flaking. I personally think it is rubbish and now refuse to use it.
Are you sure you can't. go to the expense of tiles? I think if you use tile paint, you will regret it and end up taking the plunge to retile and you would have wasted the money on tile paint. You can get some inexpensive tiles if you shop around. Topps have and 'end of line' display. This is stuff that is end of line and they may only have a few square metres and they let it go for next to nothing.
May be worth it in the long run.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
ive never seen any one of em work properly. id never do it myself.
bite the bullet and retile if needed.
budget tiles are not expensive now, esp when the easter sales are coming up at BQ etc...Get some gorm.0 -
Painting tiles is cheap and nasty and cries out cheap and nasty as well. The existing tiles would have to be pretty horrible to look worse than painted tiles.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
