                    Hi there, I have never posted on this board before, but have found a lot of helpful people on the Bankruptcy and living with it board.  My husband and I are currently planning to go BR.
We have been advised to leave our mortgaged home (stop paying it) and rent a house, so that the house can go straight into the BR with no problems.
Anyway - letting agencies charge huge fees round here to credit check you, which I am pretty sure we would fail, (husband was out of work for 10 months 2008/09 and although he is working now we cannot make some of our payments due to a drop in income still)
So here is my question: Is is wrong/illegal/or just plain frowned upon to ask a houseowner if they will rent direct to you? I.e. you go and view a property through an agent, love it, can afford the rent, but don't want to be messed about with credit checks? I don't to pay the agent £250 to be turned down, I have not got anyone who will guarrentor for us or 6 months rent to offer up front!!!!

            You can ask, but I don't think anyone would say yes! The reason landlords use an agent is so that any prospective tenants can be checked to ensure (as much as possible) that they can pay the rent. Therefore bypassing this step would be a huge risk for the landlord.
