As a self employed person of 30+ years who now has no work and cannot currently find any, am I entitled to register at a job centre and claim job-seekers allowance. I am up to date with my NI stamp and also with all tax payments. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Class 2 NI will not qualify you for contribution based JSA.
You may be able to claim income based JSA depending on your household income and savings.0 -
Many thahanks for your reply Healy. Do you, or anyone out there, know what the family income and savings thresholds are? Or, where I can find out?0

            try the directgov.co.uk site
and entitledto.co.uk
you can put some figures in and see what you are entitled to!Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -
If you're partner/wife works and earns more than £5k a year you will not be entitled to income based JSA. If neither of you are working and you have less than £16k (I think) savings then you should be entitled to income based JSA - You would also need to apply for council tax benefit and housing benefit (if you rent).
Whether you're entitled to payments or not, you should make a claim for JSA as they will pay your stamp for you.“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”
