What model is the VCR?
Are you trying to tune a spare channel on the TV into the RF output of the VCR or tune in the channels on the VCR itself? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

On two different Ferguson Videostar models that I have seen, they have buttons under a flap either top or front right, which are labelled Auto search, Skip, Store etc. Have you found these?

So first you need to tune your TV into the output channel of the video (put a video in and tune the TV until you find the playing video) and store this as say channel 8.
Then while tuned to channel 8 on the TV, press the Auto Tune button on the video and watch the TV screen. It should automatically scan though the frequencies stopping when it finds a TV station. You can then Skip over that channel or press the Store button to store that station. When you have stored all of the TV channels in the correct order, you will then be able to use the video to change the channels displayed on the TV using the remote.
