Admiral quote just so cheap - what is the catch.

I have just been quoted £564 with Admiral for 12 months car insurance - Direct Line (my current insurer) have quoted £1045 and most others up around £1400. I am 18 and had an accident in my first year which was deemed 50/50 blame.

The price at Admiral sounds really good but I am worried that there has to be a catch - I am thinking that I should stick with Direct Line but I wonder if anybody else is with Admiral. I just cannot see how they can be so cheap.

Thanks for any advice.

How much is the excess? Also you may find the price will change once you go to purchase the policy

Best of luck, lets hope it is cheaper for you, better in your pocket than theirs

You asked a similar question on the 27th about Elephant. Are you slowly working your way around the same group?

    Hi,
Yes I did ask a previous question about elephant, yes I have been working my way around the group (as there is quite a variation across the various Admiral companies), and no I do not work for them. And I think somebody asked about the excess which is £150.

I am asking questions because I do not like being ripped off and I thought this site was all about saving money and getting assistance with money issues. In my mind there is something wrong when one company quotes half that of all other companies. Having researched Admiral further, and in particular their legal partner, I have decided to pay the extra and give them a miss.

Thanks to everybody for the assistance.

The downside of Admiral is having to use Albany when you have a problem. Believe me that and the inability of Admiral call centre staff to comprehend even the most simple of statements is incredibly frustrating.

Soolin I would have thought the you would have said the downside of Admiral is they do not do new car replacement as do 99% of other companies. This must have cost you between £1000 and £2000 on your recent claim.

I agree Albany are not at all that

    Yes that as well!

I stopped posting on my other thread in the end as I didn't think anyone would beleve me when I said what Admiral were doing anymore. I'll just put it this way, our new car arrives today (a few months old so not new but new to us), DVLA informed etc. Admiral however have started asking us for details of the log book and driving license all over again and they want to know if we are accepting their offer on the write off (despite us phoning and phoning saying it is dealt with) they appear to have cancelled the entire multi car policy, then corrected that to say just the policy on the written off car, then yesterday we got another letter that refers to the entire policy having been cancelled and being reinstated when we collect the new car today.

Then the payments taken from our credit card for no reason (they cannot understand the difference between a debit and a credit) then too much money being refunded, then another payment taken that is a completely random figure and in the same letter where they confirm to us as per our request in writing that they have not retained our credit card details.

See, no one would believe all that!

Direct Line will do any address changes, car changes, cancellations etc. with no charge (generally) whereas Admiral charge £25+ to make any such change each and every time. If you read some Admiral review sites they are not particularly pleasant about it either.

You'll be fine as long as you don't have to use your own insurance for a courtesy car, change any driver/additional details etc. etc.
