Re-starting degree....

Hi all
I started my degree in Business and Italian last September and gradually decided through much thought and soul searching that the Italian module isn't for me - so have put in a degree transfer to do single honours Business in sept which has been approved.
Ive decided to continue with this semester mainly because im not contracted to go back to work till June so would have nothing else to do otherwise! Thing is - ive hardly been going to any lectures (contradicting the latter i know...) and I have had a letter from my year head wanting to know why i haven't attended many lectures in the last couple of weeks (Italian only). Ive given a medical reason (bad i know). Can the uni throw me off this semester/course even though its been officially agreed and signed off that im transfering programmes? Its not because im poor at what i do - i've been getting high 70's/and early 80's in one of my business modules, and mid 60's in my italian modules ....
Secondly - if i decided to pull out end of this month, is it my responsibility to tell student finance or does the uni do that? Im due to get my last loan installment in April and to be honest with you, i really do need that installment to get me through summer.....
Any advice would be great - ta!

It's your responsibility to notify the SLC, as per the Terms & Conditions you sign, and Schedule 3 of The Student Support Regulations.
You are only entitled to loans and grants based on the time you are in attendance. If you drop out, it's pro-rata'd up until the date you last attended, and you would be required to pay back the excess to the SLC straight away.0 -
As above, you would have to repay the extra money immediately if you decided to drop out and you wouldn't be entitled to the next loan installment. And whether or not you have agreed that you are dropping a course I'm pretty sure you need to maintain attendance etc to get the credits for a module (at least at my uni) so theoretically you could get kicked off or not get credit for your Italian module.
I'm not sure what you are planning to do here - are you restarting the entirely or dropping Italian and proceeding into 2nd year Business? Either way I would say you should really keep up your attendance and pass all of your modules, that way the loans people can't ask for the money back and you wouldn't be at risk of not getting enough credits to proceed into 2nd year.0
