50's style wedding dresses?

Options
Hello! I've just begun to think about my wedding outfit and don't think I would feel comfortable in a big traditional wedding dress... it's just not me.

I would love a Candy Anthony dress but can't afford it.:( Has anyone tried Honeypie Boutique, Dolly Couture or Vivien of Holloway? Any other suggestions?

After frannyann showed me the beautiful Candy Anthony dresses I desperately want one! They are so expensive though. I emailed a friend who is a dressmaker and she said she can make me one for £1000 which is still way too much for me.

The above is a gorgeous dress, again courtesy of frannyann but I'm after more of a netting skirt. Edit: Just realised the above dress is a honeypie boutique dress. I'd be interested if anyone has used them to see what the quality is like because they are very reasonably priced.

I've gone for a 50's dress as that's the type of thing I normally wear.

I looked at Candy Anthony and Dolly Couture dresses and loved them. Had pretty much decided to go with Dolly Couture, then I fell in love with one from Stephanie James (American) but I was in the same situation as you - no way I was going to pay that much and was unsure about ordering from abroad.

I found a local dressmaker, showed her some pictures and she is now making me my dress (based on Josephine) at a price I am happy to pay - especially as I am getting personalised service and a custom made garment.

I know Linda (our very helpful, resident dress maker) recently made a 50's inspired dress for a customer. I'm sure some kind soul will post a link to some pics if you ask nicely :)

Vivienne of Holloway do versions of their dress design aimed at brides for around £100. Just be careful to check their sizing as I have found they do come up small.

Good luck with your search :)

i had a dolly coture one, this one:

it was very comfortable to wear all day and the skirt fanned out beautifully when i danced. i got loads of compliments on how i looked and that id dressed like 'me'. the sash was custom to match my lipstick and hair colour :) id definately reccomend her. if you contact her with your preferred style and size she will do you a custom ebay listing so youve got the protection of paying by paypal and she sends it out really quickly. the only glitch was that i got charged by customs but they did say that it was random.

I did toy with the idea of going 50s ...... i looked at all the sites that have been mentioned! Then i found this one http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?line=m&page=21&style=A3131 which i VERY nearly bought - only i couldnt find anywhere near me that stocked it! Its not typically 50s but has that "look" and is so pretty with the polka dots!! I was going to just have the train chopped off the back so it was same length all way round!
Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?
