  • It is hard, cos you sit there and come up with all these ideas but then cant action them, i sometimes feel like I am wishing my life away - im 24 this summer, and just cant believe this is how I spend my days, I look my my signature and see how much money we paid off our debts so far this year and I think god I could be seeing the world with this money, could have a mini, could have weekends away with the OH - but I only have myself to blame - booo xxx

    Hi Faye,

    Firstly, welcome to the boards.

Secondly, sometimes people say the things you don't want to hear and it comes across as harsh. Don't take it personally. It's just the way it sometimes is

Finally, keep up with your diary. It's such a stupid thing to say, but you'll find it like your best friend. I'm like you, so embarassed about my debt and worse than that no-one knows just how bad it is. So stupid and very lonely.

I've been ebaying and using gumtree like mad for months and have paid off a good chunk of my OD. You mentioned that you have dogs, could you offer a dog sitting service at the weekends for people who had pooches and want to get away.

Your car is a hard one, it's such a personal thing and it will be a hard choice to make for you.

I can't offer any help with the CCCS, but I contacted all my creditors independantly and it was hard work and they grind you down, I got 2 to agree a debt repayment plan, but not the others. So defo look into it.

I hope you stick with the diary as I'd love to hear how your journey pans out. I imagine that there are others here too who would like to hear how well you do.

Just to give you some motivation (not that you need any as you appear to be buzzing from the info at the min) but there is a thread where people post how long it's taken them to be debt free. It so good to read a brief shot of someone's journey and reminds you that you can do it too.
I'll post it on a separate post.

    Keep your chin up kiddo,

    Lots of Love

    LL xx

    Thanks LL :-)

As I sit camped out in front of the fire with the heating firmly switched off hoping my laptop wont melt lol...........

Have been thinking about it all day (do we DFWs think about anything else?!) and made a plan. Having a plan always makes me feel better about everything!

On wednesday as soon as I get back from my induction course I'm going to ring CCCS and ask for help and get the ball rolling. I read the 'ask a CCCS person for help' thread and someone did say that although my credit rating will be affected I will still be able to remortage, just not as favourably as someone with a clean sheet so I will have to swallow that to get everything else sorted out. If they can get me on a plan based on my basic salary so all of my creditors are getting something and its not getting any worse that will be a start, then every single commission payment I get I will give them to share out between the creditors hopefully I should be able to clear them off before I'm 90 ;-) That coupled with some seriously well organised budgeting, a 2nd job and some ebaying..........

Spoke to my step dad very vaguely about the car and he said he didn't think it would be a good idea to get rid of it until I have passed the probationary period at this new job just in case and I think he's got a point. So we shall see. It will have to go at some stage though.

I did read that post you mentioned, VERY motivating. Hopefully I will get on there at the earliest possible date!

not wanting to sound like I'm whinging or making crap excuses but........ I would love to do to the pet sitting, its a great idea as I'm such an animal lover but one of my dogs has a serious attitude problem about other dogs, hence I walk in the middle of nowhere so we don;t get a doggy asbo! I had found some excellent training classes to go to which would have sorted it before all this got out of control but suprise suprise can't afford them at the moment. I can't wait to be debt free and be able to spend on things like that as it's my passion so there's something else too look forward to!

I agree with your step dad, Co cars are great, but what happens when you have no job. Not very MSE as you have to buy another car. Someone suggested SORN somewhere. Have you thought about that for a few months and the exercise from cleaning the Co Car every week would be great for keeping you in shape.

No you don't sound like you are whinging, but go on a few web sites and see how other dogsitters manage it. I did the pub thing for years, it's good, you have a social life and also get paid for it! Just be ruthless about using the money for debts, I wasn't.

I'm away to bed. Good night my love and keep up with the diary, it's such good therapy. There are nights when all I can manage is one sentence and others when I manage a page. And I have loads of diary's to catch up on. So behind on that.

    Night LL xx

    Hi Faye,

Just wanted to say good luck to you. Your story is virtually the same as mine, word-for-word! You have taken the most important and difficult step, which is to stop; turn around; and face up to your debts. I had at least five or six years of hiding bank statements before I felt brave enough to sort myself out.

I got an IVA. Horrible at the time - and still a couple of years to go - but, for me at least, the best thing I ever did.

You are being smart - and that's the best you can be at the moment. And MSE is always here to support you.

I know (God, do I know) that the next few years will be tough. But you are doing the right thing, so take comfort in that. One day, all this will be ancient history and you will be a better, stronger person for what you've been through.

Best wishes to you. It will be OK in the end, you'll see.

And you have the right sidekick... I probably wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for my wonderful dog Jasper. His food, etc., bills may add a little to the financial burden - but his love and companionship are free, and they are the most precious things I have.

Thinking of you lots as you take the first steps towards a positive, debt-free, new life!

No kidding about the woofers, I would go mad if it wasn't for my boys, we had a fab long walk this evening and not only have I had fresh air, exercise and a laugh (at their expense- they ran head first into a tree after a squirrel haha!) it was FREE ! ;-)
