I'm looking to upgrade my RAM for my laptop. Had browse around MSE threads and found these two:

http://www.crucial.com/uk
Any other good stores for RAM upgrade? Many thanks.

Crucial is actually a manufacturer of RAM - their site is good for finding out which ram your PC can accept but is no means the cheapest when it actually comes to buying it. You can always go to the likes of DABS, Overclockers or any other of the thousands of online storeas and buy crucial memoryAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Considering Crucial are merely the sales arm of micron I don't think it's unfair to say that crucial are the manufacturers since they are the brand name and Astaroth's post is still valid that crucial is useful for looking up compatibility but to look elsewhere for cheaper prices."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Froogle it

Doesnt always come up with the cheapest but will give you a good idea of what you should or shouldnt be paying.0 -
Not sure what capacity or speed you require.
This aint bad for 512MB DDR333 - £25.95

Thanks guys. I'm actually looking for a 1GB one..
See here: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.asp?model=Presario+X1000+Series&tabid=CR
I'm not sure how to browse other online shops like the one suggested (and even Froogle) because I'm not sure which one is compatible with my laptop. In buying RAM, what do you actually look at? How to look at the compatibility and do brand names matter?0 -
All that you need is a 1GB PC2700 SODIMM, you should find one cheaper than that elsewhere. Try eBuyer, Dabs, LowestOnWeb.
Brand names do not matter that much in all honesty, but try to avoid generic (no-name) memory.0 -

Thanks, Kilty. Seems like they are all more or less the same price... Crucial is only slightly more expensive...
I've been looking around and saw this one called ByteStor on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00025E0JK/202-4853272-9783007?v=glance&n=560798&s=gateway&v=glance
Reckon it's any good? Got a few good reviews there, and plus my amazon voucher, this one worked out to be the best deal for me...
P/s: Yeah, I changed my mind to 512MB after reading some reviews elsewhere about how hot 1GB RAM can be.... So was a bit worried...0 -
Crucial 512MB can be had for £37 at LowestOnWeb, but I'm sure that will be fine.
Also I see that DDR2 533 is down to £25.60 so it looks like time to upgrade my Inspiron 1300:D:D

Yeah, I went to LowestOnWeb and saw that too (according to your advice), but then again, Amazon is still better despite being 1quid more expensive because of the vouchers I have.
But I've never heard of ByteStor before this...0 -

e-xcessories.com appears to have ceased trading - but the website is still up. DO NOT order as you will be in for a very long wait. (Do Google search for
'e-xcessories problem' and see all the complaints).0
