I sometimes make up gift baskets. My favourite one is a cinema basket. You have to pay out for the cinema vouchers but the rest can be done quite cheaply. I search charity shops for a basket, add the vouchers and then other things such as popcorn, fizzy drinks, sweets etc. I pretty it up wth ribbon that I always save from other things throughout the year. Looks quite impressive.Member 105 of 1% at a time - 23/100 :j0

I do food hampers with chutney, cheesy biscuits, cheese etc and use all sorts of containers for them eg last year I used pastel colured sieves from TK Makx. Dh has 4 secretaries at work to give gifts to and now each year they check to make sure it's going to be a HM hamper and not soap or choccies
Last year the kids made Binca bookmarks for their teachers - does anyone else remember Binca - with some simple embroidery stitches and then backed with felt. Binca mats are also good.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

What about friendship bracelets for children to give to each other?
I'm no good at this thinking of ideas! Plus most of my very small family would hate something HM, despite the fact I'd love to make pressiesComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -

Queenie wrote:Ah yes, it's wonderful when that happens
When my youngest grandchild was born, I made all the gifts to take to the hospital: Nappy Cake, Blanket Baby, Mother's Survival Kit, Daddy's Toolbox ... the nursing staff were     asking my son where I'd bought them from because they were the most unusual gifts they'd ever seen on the ward:rotfl: He phoned to ask me so he could pass on the source and I was equally shocked that he hadn't realised I'd made them!! Yes, gifts certainly do take on a great meaning when they are made and given from the heart.
Queenie, what a great idea!!
what did you put in the Mothers Suvival Kit and Daddy Toolbox?

I want to make some cherry brandy in small bottles to give away with some cherry fudge but can't find a cheery brandy recipe
Also I'm gonna make christmas pudding flavoured vodka with a small christmas pudding.
ALL HM and in beer bottle sized glasses, wrapped in celephane, I might even get small shot glasses to include with them!
And each of the grandparents are getting a small HM christmas cake!

For a gardener you could decorate terracotta pots. One year I bought the cardboard picture mounts and then decorated them with ribbons, buttons etc and stuck an appropriate picture in. For those of you with a more alternative bent one friend made beautiful runes from pebbles that she'd picked up from the beach which she then painted and made a bag for decorated with fabric paint. Little ones could paint stones and they could be made into paper weights. Another year [when the small person had just come along and I was desperate to do anything non baby related] I made several American folk art style tree decorations using gingham, wooden buttons, sisal etc [ cat, angel, tree] I drew the shapes out onto scrap wood and OH cut them out for me. How about whacky plant supports...you can decorate bamboo sticks with paints and stick bits on the top, paint plain ceramic mugs and plates. Sorry a bit of a ramble but I've simply typed it all out as it's come to mind!
