 Well where do I start?
You've got your card so basically you are looking to make as many Clubcard points as possible each quarter so you get lots of Clubcard Vouchers each time (next lot will be sent out to you before Christmas). But you DON'T want to ever spend the Vouchers you are sent on your shopping at the till (read Martin's article, Never Spend Tesco Clubcard Points Instore, it was part of an email in May, maybe someone can find it?).
Have a look on https://www.tesco.com/clubcard and see what Deals you will be able to convert your vouchers to at the end of the year. If you earn, say, £10-worth of vouchers this quarter you can convert them to be worth £40 in a Deal of your choice.
To earn lots of points you need to look out for the till-spits we are talking about here (the extra bit churned out by the till every so often, with your receipt) which should be for extra points on something you have bought before (as Tesco keeps a record of your shopping pattern). Try to collect these till spits from friends, family - and Tescos floor/carpark too if you dare - and make a point of buying the item and handing over the till-spits in good time before expiry. Maybe buy petrol at Tesco too, if convenient. Your points will soon build up.
You can also spend money-off coupons as cash towards your shopping at most large Tescos (without buying the item you are supposed to, as per the coupon). This means you can earn points just by handing over 'bits of barcoded paper' found in Newspapers & magazines. Read the MSE Newspaper thread every day (it's not boring stuff about the news, if you've not looked at it much, it's mainly there to tell us all where the best money-off coupons are!).
And finally, with each quarterly vouchers mailing, Tesco will send you some extra points coupons to build up your total even more. Maybe get another card now in OH or relative's name, rotate their use over the coming months and you will get more till-spits and more offer coupons each quarter.
HTHPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
