Tesco World Book Day books

apologies if this has already been posted but i have just been into my local Tesco to pick up some books with my World Book day voucher and they were on bogof - basically i got 8 books for 4 vouchers - albeit they didn't have the whole selection but i was very pleased - these are the ones advertised at £1 each by the way and have 2 books in one but good value nevertheless

I know it isn't down to the OP to decide what Tesco puts on BOGOF, but I think to put these BookDay books on is just plain mean! :(

There are only 6 titles to choose from and the small stock that most retailers get disappears really quickly. Many people don't even get the opportunity to get 1 free book before all the stock has gone, especially as not all schools are prompt getting them out.

In my opinion it is a little bit like stealing from children - probably just so Tesco can clear them out asap. Yes, I know that the vouchers can be redeemed on other titles over £2.99, but that is not really as good as a freebie is it, especially when like me you have more than one child who are all expecting to come away with a new book!

For the OP to come away with 8 titles when not all of the six available were even in stock means that a degree of duplication must have occurred. Was that really necessary?

funnily enough Tesco had them for the whole month after World Book day last year so i would hope that this year they are trying to shift them a bit sooner but not before you get what you want:)

sorry i should have said that the reason i came away with 8 books was that i work in a school and we had 10 vouchers left over as they come in packs - the teacher asked me to get a couple of extra copies of each title available for our library - i work in a very small school where the children are unlikely to use the book vouchers given to them sadly but if the books are in our library they will read them - i was not getting them to be greedy or for my use:o

My son's school hasn't even given out any vouchers and World Book Day was yesterday!!! I guess we'll be missing out on these special books too as they'll all be gone by the time we get our voucher!

I got given a voucher at my baby club. It says it's worth 1.50 Euros though which I thought was a bit odd. Do you think I can still use it?

WHSmih were also selling these books for anyone who can't find them in Tesco, they had a bigger selection too! (altho they weren't BOGOF there!)

dont apologise, no one here has to justify what they buy and why,

trynsave, was it really necessary to question someone who shared a deal with others here ? its not as if they cleared the shelves, i have 2 kids who like to have the same things so i would purchase duplicates !

if your kids want more books to read at no cost why not try the library

I can't help but think it's a real shame that Tesco feel the need to do this. (Not having a go at the OP at all btw, thanks for post). The World Book Day vouchers provide a great opportunity for parents to get their children into a book shop, at no extra cost to themselves, but promotions like this at Tesco (who obviously won't be content until they rule the world!) - just seem particularly greedy and mean-spirited.

We'll be going out of our way today to go to a proper book shop, have a browse and spend the vouchers.

My kids got their vouchers yesterday and also came home with a brochure from the Puffin Book club which the school do for fundraising. You can put your vouchers towards their books (don't think they had stock of the £1 books, though) - I guess that's a good option for people who don't necessarily have a high street bookshop nearby, and is a bit better IMO than buying from Tescos.
  • No need to worry about getting these £1 books, whether they are free or not. Much better to invest in your child's future and take them to the local library. It's also free and they have access to a world of books, most much better than the ones they dish out for World Book Day.
    It's 5 o'clock somewhere!
