NEC 338 getting hot

I have had this phone for about 18 months now but I've noticed that it's been getting very hot when not in use (still switched on but in standby and closed - it's a clam shell design).

I have to power off, leave it to cool down then power up again.

Does anyone know what could be causing this please?

are you using a genuine battery?
if you are it is probably a faulty battery

It's the genuine/original battery that came with the phone, sounds like I need to get a new battery then? Any recommended sites at all??
