Laptop Problems

Hi,
Approx 18mths-2yrs ago I partner and I purchased Dell laptops from Tesco, in the past few months the battery on my laptop has given up as has the charger. Therefore to use my laptop I have to use my partners charger and have it plugged in constantly.......also while using the other day the screws popped out of one side of the screen, so is now held together with electricians tape!
My partners model within 6mths of purchase had to have a new hard drive, but ever since purchase it gets ridiculously hot when in use, so hot that it turns itself off. This is not with excessive use, it can occur within 30mins of internet browsing. Now, the laptop will not even turn on!
I have contacted Dell who have just advised that as both models are out of 1yr guarantee there is nothing they can do, other than send an engineer out but we will have to pay for the service.
Is there anything that I can do about this and who should I contact - Tesco or Dell?
I have to say I am very disappointed that after spending over £1000 on new laptops now, less than two years later we are faced with having to buy new ones!
I do not feel that we are at fault as we have looked after the laptops very well, they have never been dropped, banged about etc.....
I would be grateful for any advice anyone has on this situation!
Thanks

I also have a Dell laptop it has been an absolute nightmare it is just coming up to 12mths old within first week of use the hard drive went had to be replaced.Since then i have had various issues with it i have spent so much time on the phone to Dell it is a joke.
They are coming out to repair the issues it has they were going to charge me the engineer fee as i only have the normal warranty pick up and send away 10-12 day wait but after lot of pushing they have backed down but it was hard process ook some getting but i dont back down easily either lol
I have just found a site www.whatconsumer.co.uk got some pretty good advice on what to do.
Good luck i can totally understand how you feel when you spend lot money you expect something to last not go wrong less then two years later i would not give up way too much money to spend and for it to go wrong.
Doodlesmum.
Will speak my mind because that"s how i am0 -
Batteries wear out over time, I wouldn't be surprised if I had to replace a laptop battery after 2yrs really. Also what surface are you putting the overheating laptop on?
I've heard so many people complain that their laptops overheat, then it turns out they are using it on a duvet or something, they need to be on a hard surface where air can get to all the vents.0 -
Yes, if you block the airvents by using a cushion/duvet/carpet etc it can easily overheat.
Could be a faulty fan though, or both even...[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0
