To me it seems simple that Sony is a better make than Samsung but my 46" LED LCD Samsung is the best tv I have ever had.
Anyway I am buying a LCD for a retired ex worker from Makro so I can bin his portable tv he's had for most of his 86 years!
The two on offer are
Sony 32" Freeview 1080p LCD TV KDL32S5600U Sony Replacement for Makro Mail 6 - Available from 24th February until 9th March 2010 Price: £299.99 Freeview, BRAVIA Engine 2, HDMIx3, PC input, 1920x1080P resolution, Art No. 345625 Check Stock

or

Samsung 32" Freeview 1080P LCD TV LE32B530 Sony Replacement for Makro Mail 6 - Available from 24th February until 9th March 2010 Price: £299.99 1920 x 1080P, mega contrast, HDMI x 3, Art No. 341802
My brain tells me Sony but my LED in the kitchen is shouting Samsung. Is there much to choose from them?
Cheers

I like the sony, but my eyes tell me the samsung, perhaps because the pictures are the same telly.

I've been looking recently too, and to my eyes the Samsung is better than a comparably-priced Sony, mainly due to its performance on dark scenes.0

i like samsungs picture quality but the sound leaves a lot to be desired we have a 26 lcd we have just moved into the bedroom
and at times we have to have the volume turned up nearly all the way to hear some programmes
if your friend is 86 years old his ears may not be what they used to be
at the moment i have a small sony installed in the lounge whilst my main tv (panasonic plasma ) is being repaired got to say the sony is better sound wise than the sammy0 -
err Samsung make the panels for Sony, so it's all about the logic boards.
I've got one of each brand and find the Sony software and remote nicer to use0 -
Samsung Series 6 is perfect for home.0

I'd go with Samsung. The sound on their smaller models isn't the best (my 22" is a little on the quiet side, although better than Tesco one I tried first!) but my 32" has fantastic sound quality and no problems with being too quiet.0

I would go with Samsung too for no more reasons. But when it comes to other products, maybe I will choose Sony.:ji love to be loved by you:j0

Samsungs are very good tvs, but a lot of them tend to have a lot of LAG (Making them bad for gaming, and some are awful if using an external amp with no 'lip sync' feature):idea:0
