you are overdrawn yet expect them to close the account? You have to pay it off first....
as for the direct debits that werent cancelled - it is possible the companies set them up again. contact the companies and find out. If it was the banks fault (which is very possible. this is santander after all), follow the complaints procedure - written complaint, sent by registered post.
this will likely take some time, so best course of action is to pay the account into credit to avoid more charges.Debts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my Debts

I have been with Abbey/Santander now for over 4 years and have had several charges. MY advice would be to speak to somebody in India. Well technically the call centre and its best to call after 8pm. The reason for this is that they seem to have more ability to waive charges for you. In my experience if you say you have cancelled a direct debit and yet the money still left the account, complain and state that you cancelled it and now you have been charged for it. Be cheeky and say is there anyway in which you can reverse some of the charges. If you keep pusing it, they tend to reverse 2 charges in a 6 month to 12 month period. So maybe a good idea to do it now and put you back in credit plus some!
Hope this helps0
