But that was only if trying to buy tickets at a station. :beer:ANGLICANPAT wrote: »No Dzug, I didnt think there was a problem after Id read the website cbrowne posted, I was merely responding to Post 7's eyebrow raising point!0 -
I never show my railcard for buying tickets at the station, even at the sin bin. I just ask for x ticket from x to x, routed via x with a 16-25 railcard. Same when I buy tickets on the train - never even get the card out of my wallet unless the guard requests to see it.But if you want to buy your ticket at a station, you will probably raise eyebrows if you do not have your railcard at that time.
You can buy your railcard at any station with a ticket office. You need a photograph and some proof of age. They will issue it to you there and then.
When you buy your tickets, just tick the box to say you have a railcard and just make sure you have one on the day you travel.0 -

No photo needed for a senior railcard.
Also check your local council and see if they sell them at a discount for local residents (lots do!)0 -
Very strange - didn't know this. How do they prevent people passing the railcard round? Why do 16-25 railcards need a photo, but a senior railcard doesn't? And why does a senior railcard give discounts on first class, but other railcards don't?No photo needed for a senior railcard.0 -
All questions you probably ought to put to the railcard issuers (if you do really want the answers!)0

Senior railcards can also be used on SDR tickets without incurring a minimum fare.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

Dont forget that some local authority bus passes not only give you 50% discount on rail travel within the county, but also journeys into the adjacent counties.
I regularly do a round trip of 120miles, 100 of which is on a high speed train for £7.00 buying tickets on the day.0 -

Coz a fair proportion of 16-25 year olds have yet to learn adult standards of honesty and are more likely to be short of cash.
OK a wild overgeneralisation but there's a grain of truth in it.0 -
There is also the fact that holders of a Senior Railcard are also more likely to hold other ID.Fight Crime : Shoot Back.
