i think you'll find modern diesel engines are flat as hell at low rpm hence why nothing happens until the turbo spools up, where as a petrol engine has more of a spread of power and will pull from low rpm:)
an older diesel would pull away gently in any gear at any speed but new diesels do nothing, they get slower and try to stall if pushed in the wrong gear....work permit granted!0
