To my horror i found out yesterday that my wife is 8k in debt with loans and credit cards and i do not know what to do?
I accidently found c/c bills and loan stuff while looking for something yesterday. To make matters worse i confronted her at her work and she panicked and left work without proper autherisation. And know her boss has suspended her for two weeks and said he will try to sack her.
I do not know where to turn she said she will sort it out but i do not know where to start i will help her but just need some advice please

Sorry to hear about your problem. Think you could start by telling her you love her. Do not think anyone can make her feel more guilty then she already does.
Good luck.Debtfee from 20090 -
i have to say and i know i will get slated for this but you are a prime tool, what did u expect your missus to do when you did the big i am and went to her work and confronted her....a really bad bad bad bad bad decision. I suggest you talk to her first and then maybe suggest you talkiung to her boss and explainin the situation but he would be well within his right to sack her for deserting the team.
as for the debt, was it down to over living or are things ultra tight, if its the first then u shud be able to pay the debt of quickly, if its the latter it may take more stringent measures
go read southernscousers sticky and then comeback and post a SOA for both u and ur missus
In all truth thou i think ur debt is the least of ur worries at the mo

Hey... F**k the debt right now... Talk, Love, Hug
...and tell her boss to !!!!!! off.... I'd love to see them try sack her infront of a tribuneral for this !0 -
Thanks for all the replies so far i have told my wife i love her so much in the last 48 hours. I wish i hadnt gone to her work but it is done now. And we are going to fight the work issue together. Anyone know the number for the employment law helpline?
With the debt i have just read sticky's thread it was a great help thanks.
Now off to show my wife how much i love her thanks all.0 -
Good stuff. £8k is not a lot of debt in this day and age and with a few months cutting back expenditure can be driven right down.
As an afterthought, you should make sure that is the total amount she is in debt. You must give her the chance to come completely clean whilst knowing you will love and support her no matter what.
Good luck!Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
Debt free 21st Oct 2011.
All thanks to :money:0 -
Hi Woody, god i wish my husband found my cc bills when all i owed was 8K and to be honest if he had of gone mental i might not be in the 80k now lol!
to be honest now the shock has gone and you have talked to her i think you will both be fine there are loads of peops here who can help you, if you cant pay what you owe on your income then you will need to contact free debt councilling services eg CAB,CCCS, or PAYPLAN, these all help and do not charge, if you are lucky enough to be able to pay it back at terms already set, then try having a shuffty to see if you can pay it back any quicker or cheaper
when you post your SOA some clever member will sort you out
but as for your wifes work, i think the worse they can do is give her a verbal warning for this written tops, unless she has already received such measures, most bosses of smaller firms shout and moan because they stress and dont have suffiecient people skills where as bigger companies have guidlines to adhere to anyway for now big hugs and well done for realising what a bloke you are lmao,

Well...I gotta say it... why do you find it necessary to kick people when they are down enough already? Poor bloke has had a horrendous day & really needs comments like that like a hole in the head. How about trying to be supportive instead of being so judgemental & negative?
Back to original post...suggest you get advice re suspension as there are clear stages (verbal & written warning as a minimum) before suspension...Post your SOA & people will help to see where you can cut costs. Dont despair. Most of us here are in debt (& fortunatly supportive) and we all know what that awful gut wrenching feeling is like. It will get better but you need some practical sorting to see where the savings can be paid & the debt sorted. Its incredible how much you can save when you start trying. Great to hear that you & wife & speaking.
From what you have said I am sure you'll come out of this wiser, closer & stronger as a couple. Big hugs for you both (although suspect you may be "otherwise engaged" fom your comments earlier:o !!)Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hi Woody.
Firstly, glad you and your wife are resolving your issues.
Secondly, your boss is out of order.
Unauthorised absence, is only minor misconduct, you cannot be suspended for this.
She needs to ask her boss for a copy of the companys disciplinary procedure, and ask him what specific paragraph states he can suspend her for walking out.
Your wife would win a tribunal case easily.
I know it's a small company, they still have to have statutory grievance procedures and suchlike though.
Keep me posted, PM me if you want further advice over this.

i don't find it necessary to kick people when they are down but they guy is a tool for doing that and i did actually go on and express what he should be doing to rectify the problem. And to be honest his day probably doesn't compare to his wife's day.
Also Mcbirrne (sp) how can unauthorised absence only be a minor disciplinary, that sucks big time. It should be IMO a major one and she should get suspended for it, i feel sorry for small companies when this happens to them. There is far far to much protection for the employees. but that is way OT so i shall leave it there
