Have a look on the meal plan thread for inspiration, perhaps there might be something meaty there that he would be happy to eat? Is it that he really doesn't like stuff or is he just being fussy? Only ask cos he eats bolognese and sausage and mash, yet won't eat shepherds pie, which is only mince and mash really!

Perhaps he could also help by coming up with a list of meals that you would like too? Or he could take turns cooking?w

If he really is very limited in what he will eat then it might be worth cooking up lots of whatever it is and freezing it down as homemade ready meals, that way you can make something you'd like to eat and just whip something from the freezer for him if he didn't fancy it!

this made me laugh - it took me 11 years to get my husband to eat shepherd's or cottage pie, although he would be quite happy to eat mince and mash. Turned out his mother was a shockingly bad cook and her cottage pies were both dreadful and served very regularly. He was shocked when he tasted a properly made one and it was nice. (same goes for pasta, but that only took 9 years!) I have to say I didn't 'pander' to him, I cooked for the family and if he didn't want it he did for himself and it still took 9 and 11 years!

Seriously though, if he has a very negative view of some meals it could be related to a bad meal (or a bad cook!) and that's putting him off before he even tastes it.

Make yorkshires to go with the sausages for toad in the hole. Just for a change
Cornbeef and potato pie Layer slices of potato, sliced onion and cornbeef, add oxo cube gravy in a casserole dish and cook in the oven, pastry lid optional.

    How about a chicken casserole?

I've just tried something different over the past two weeks..

I go to the good food website with the BBC, put in the meat that I want to cook e.g. chicken, beef, pork etc then scroll down the recipes to see if there is one that I want to give a go. Then I make a shopping list to ensure I have all the ingredients. We are having two new fish dishes this week:

Baked Trout in Paper with Lemon Roast Potatoes
    &
    Smoked Salmon with Lemon Risotto

I do enjoy doing it and it is so nice to sit down and eat the stuff you normally eat but with a twist (We don't normally have smoked Salmon though - that's a treat!)

Give it a whirl and even if you only get one recipe a week it has to be better for you to have a little variety...

    Good Luck

    You say he likes meat...

Buy some steak - any really, depending on your budget, this is just as nice with cheaper cuts as it is with rump.

Dice an onion and put in a large frying pan with a little oil, seal the steak over a medium to hot heat. Then Add some gravy (I use Tesco own brand) and simmer in the gravy for about 20 minutes. I serve with potatos or chips.

I sometimes add quartered mushrooms to the gravy near the end of cooking and if I have some red wine in, I put some over the streak and fry for a few minutes before adding the gravy. yummy yummy!

    Hope this helps.

Have to agree with the other posters I'm afraid - don't pander to him. If he doesn't like what you're serving, either he suggests something else or cooks for himself. You're not his chef!

Or serve him up the same meal every day until he gets bored of it and asks for something different - at which point you say, "like what?"

Good luck - I had an old-fashioned, fussy eating DH when we first got together. I stopped pandering to him and he lasted 3 days, when he ran out of pants :D He's very well trained now love him

  • Toad in the hole!

Pancake mix poured over sausages in a baking tray with a little light drizzle of oil. 30 mins in the oven...Bit of gravy on top no man could not enjoy it.

Or if he likes curries maybe a stir fry so quick and easy to cook, even if you haven't a wok (although a good investment if he likes it).
