complaining to renault ????

hi, i am currently waiting for the complaints dept at renault to call me back, and just after a bit of advice....

I own a 53' plate renault megane.

on the 17th feb got in the car put the key fob in and got a message on the dash saying 'key not detected'
phoned renault the next day, as it broke at 9.00 at night!! and they said wiggle the key fob around, did so, no joy...
had a look on the internet and discovered this has happened to LOADS of people and a new key is needed at the grand sum of £188 from renault.

anywho... car taken (22nd feb) to an arnold clark dealer to find out what the fault was... low and behold it IS the key!
they advised 5-7 days for a key as it comes from france and needs to be programmed to the car blah blah blah....
still waiting 10 WORKING days later. no chance of courtesy car, they only have 3 and they are all booked out!!
no chance of a discount on the repairs!! £188 for the key!! £120 to get the car to arnold clark!
no chance of reimbursment if i hire a car, no chance of reimbursment for taxi/bus fares. not even a sorry!!!

phoned this morning for an update, still no key.
had a bit of a rant, the girl gave me the number for renault. so here i am waiting for a call back. does anyone have any suggestions on what i should say? or think ill be sucessful in getting them to pay for a hire car or discount the repairs (especially with it being a 'common' fault???

On a 7 year old car, I would say the odds on getting anything substantial back are minimal. The dealer, or manufacturer, may offer a goodwill gesture if you ask nicely though :)

(assuming it has a FSH with them etc)

as for it being a 'common fault'
you have to remember people are quick to jump on the net when they have a problem but tootle along when the cars doing fine
its a 7 year old car,you cant expect dealers to pay for hire cars for people with 'old' cars
as long as the dealer ordered the key promptly then its down to Renault to get the part out

did both keys 'break at the same time?

as said renault may offer goodwill but doubtful
maybe should have got spare key fixed beforehand then you would'nt be in this situation.

no the spare was broke when we got it, we just didnt know!! they open and lock the car, just wont turn it on.
i was quite ok to pay for the repairs ect ect as it is an old car. 6 month prior i had paid £400 to get the dash sorted as the steering locked and i couldnt turn the car on.
i know faults will happend with old cars, but the girl at arnold clark admitted that it was common herself, so surely i sould get some some sort of gesture of good will.
i am more annoyed at time legnth of time to fix, than paying for repairs tbh

just because its common doesnt mean you get any gestures
most consumer items have common faults that they fail on
as said no harm in trying but it shows how much hassle it can be with modern keys.
i confess i only have one working key for my car :o
