Speeding fine sent to old address, should I reply?

I recently moved and changed my address with the DVLA on my driving licence. The address change was done on Feb 19th as confirmed on my driving licence.

This morning I received a speeding ticket. I was caught on Feb 20th and the letter to me was isssued on March 3rd however it was sent to my old address and not the new address that the DVLA held on file. Should I respond to it or should I ignore it and deny receiving it?

Any help would be appreciated.

James

You should reply, ignoring it won't help but will cause complications later.
Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!
  • When did you change the registration address of the car? that is what they are basing the letter on not the driving licence

What about the address on your V5 (Log book) They will be tracing you using the registered address of the keeper.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !
  • Good point, the log book is still registered to the old address it's only the DVLA that I have informed so far. I guess I'm banged to rights then!

Do you have your post redirected? If not, how did you get hold of the letter?

You could try sealing up the envelope, and sending it back to the scammers marked "not known at this address" - they will eventually track you down and issue a new NIP at your new address, but that might take them a few weeks, then you have 28 days to reply with driver's details, then another 28 days to accept the fixed penalty offer - it's possible you can string this out past the 6 month deadline for issuing a summons. You can get more info on pepipoo about this.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

The post is redirected but it could be resealed but by the sound of it they will track me down eventually and then I'll have to cough up. I've posted on pepipoo too so I'll read through that just in case someone comes up with a cunning plan.

    Thanks for your post.

Do not even consider this appalling suggestion. You are being advised to commit fraud.
