renovating stag furniture

We have some Stag bedroom furniture in Limed Oak. It's about 15 years old I guess - but still in good condition apart from the top surfaces

The veneer is stained and lifting in some places - leaky coffee cups on the bedside cabinets and make up stains on the dressing table I guess!

Perhaps we could cover the top with some glass tops? Or is there a way of renovating the wood finish?

Thanks for any advice

Anyone any ideas on where I could get coloured safety glass cut to size to put on top of these surfaces - like they have in some hotels?

Safety glass can't be cut - it has to be cut to shape first, then tempered in a furnace. But any glazier / glass merchant should be able to order it, in a variety of thicknesses, smokey colour, bevelled edge, rounded corners etc.

Clear or smoke acrylic sheet would probably be cheaper - some of the larger DIY sheds sell it; cut it with a fine toothed jigsaw on slow speed.
