yes got to agree. We had a hedge which we wanted to get rid of so we cut it as low as we could and even I managed to get the stumps out. I basically dug the soil out as much as I could from around the stumps and then started hoofing it as hard as I could......soon started to free itself, out in a shot. The hedge had been there for many years so you can imagine how big stumps they were. We have a nice wall there now, much better0 -
We had a huge Leylandii (sp?) in our garden. We wanted rid so we just chainsawed it as low as we could, then on the top of the stump thats left we cut into it from above with the chainsaw to make gouges then poured petrol onto it. Worked a treat.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

If it's a large stump, save yourself the hassle and time by contacting your local tree surgeon to grind it out for you. Stump grinding should be left to the pro's, it's quick and doesn't cost that much - £45 for our 2 large stumps last year!I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

We helped friends in North Carolina get rid of this HUGE tree stump (5 feet across), cut off to about 3 feet high. We dug out as much of the earth round the base as possible, used an axe to chop through as many of the thick roots as we could find, chained it to a truck through any gap we could find round the roots, and slowly drove it away. Took all morning and it was a monstrous job, but we got there in the end - they'd previously tried to burn it and nothing had happened. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

Kill the stump with roundup and it will rotSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

drill holes in the stump then pour bleach down it it should rot it away then just a few hits with a spade and it should break up easy.0

Good thread I have a couple of stumps to get rid of too.
I'd be surprised if roundup kills them it's failed to kill some puny plants growing in the paving stones in my back yard, gonna spray them again today and see what happens otherwise I think it may be a duff lol.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)
