Hi Everyone,

I am shortly about to book some knee surgery (I have private healthcare through work so can "book" it) and have realised that I won't be able to drive my manual car for approx 4 weeks after the surgery.

I do not have anyone that I could borrow an automatic car from for that length of time so am reduced to hiring a car for the period ... which is bloomin' expensive according to the quotes I've got so far.

I'd be happy to consider buying a small rattling tin can of a car and insuring etc and then reselling if that makes economic sense but this could be a headache.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I can reduce the cost of this exercise?

Thanks Icey x

In which leg you have the surgery?

If right leg, then you can't drive auto too.

Even though it is left leg, should you better not take some rest instead?
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

This is what I was thinking, buying an old car for a short while and then reselling would (hopefully) reduce the overall cost and then someone else can make use of the car.

The surgery will be on my left knee so an automatic will be OK. I'm not really in a position to take sick leave - I can still do my job despite the surgery and expect to have only short term mobility issues in the getting from place to place variety. I'll be able to walk (slowly) but not operate the clutch in my manual car.

    Thanks for the replies
