Looked at House - Needs DG replacement units.. due to misting HELP!!

HI all,

Just viewed a house and it needs around 7-8 double glazing 'small windows' replacing.

Windows are approx 35cm x45cm in dimenson... The problem is they are full of condensation inside the actual double glazing unit.

Anyone got ideas of the relative costs to replace them roughly? I dont have the exact dimensions but would like to get a feel how much it would cost to do etc.

Am going to arrange a second viewing so may take measuring tape and work out exactly how many need replacement to calculate price and 'offer reduction'.

Cheers

The units are not expensive at all and shouldn't take much effort to replace. I'd guess at about £30-40 a unit? Go direct to a glazier to save money on it.

I would definitely speak to a local glaziers for a rough idea, just to be sure. Are the windows plastic, aluminium or wood? That would make a difference - at least wood would.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

They're about as hard to change as a normal single-glazed window that breaks ... a man pops along and measures up, then pops out the old unit, sticks the new one in and bob's your uncle. Of course, in the case of double glazed he'd have to measure up first then come back ... but it's not something I'd even think of as a cost, just a small job to be done.

This random googled bloked quotes a price of "from £16.50 + VAT" http://www.a10glass.co.uk/sealed_units.php?p=22

It's a small job that can be done as and when you want to. A few hundred quid I would say, certainly not a deal breaker - it will come up on a survey but it's not a big deal imo. We needed a few doing when we sold our house but the buyer never even mentioned it.

yea i spoke to my dad he says the same. And we know a guy who used to fit windows... so will most likely buy new replacement ones and both of us will try refitting them... so as you all day not a biggie.

If the frames are ok then it's not that dear. Ask for prices off someone - bound to be someone in the free paper who does it.

I am having 2 x 90cm x 45cm misted units replaced next friday that have georgian bars in for £110 incl VAT and fitting so yours are half the size but four times as many so I would estimate about £400.

I would have fitted them myself too as its so easy but for £110 fitted its not worth doing.
  • I was told that misting inside the DG units is a good thing and means they are better, when I bought my last house.

He also sold me a "Special kind of Hamster" Siberian i think it was.
