How long before you ask the EA about interest

I was just wondering how long people leave between putting their house on the market and phoning the EA about interest, what they have been doing etc.
My house only went on the market last week so not majorly concerned but should I start phoning them to check what they are doing or leave it for another week or 2.

Your EA will update you in line with their policy - i.e. one phone call each month. Our first EA called once a month, but if we called in the meantime it was a month from our call (if you know what I mean). Our second EA called once per month regardless of how often we called them. They should have told you how often you'll be updated. Regardless you can call them anytime, or at least, that's how it should be. They should be able to tell you how many brochures they've handed out, how many hits to the website and how many store tours. They will call you if there's interest, but it doesn't hurt to call them for an update. Don't forget it will take a couple of weeks for the marketing to kick in, so after two weeks, if you haven't heard anything, I'd give them a call. Perhaps a bit too early as things stand.0

I'd expect a flurry of activity when the house first hits the market. It would be interesting to see the rightmove stats for the first week. And when it hits the newspaper - how many calls they are getting.
Also, if you aren't getting calls from the EA then it's good to put yourself into their heads - in a nice way! I've often had calls back straight after calling them, with viewings to book.
I once lived really close to the agent selling our house. I took them in a big box of chocolates and told them I was in all day if they wanted to send people round to view. We got 12 viewings that day - and a sale!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I would definitely give them a call just to see how things are going, they should be able to give you the Rightmove stats from the past couple of weeks.
Generally the first 4 weeks of marketing are the most important time and should be the busiest with viewings/enquiries etc.
I'm sure the agent won't mind you calling, whilst you are one the phone why not ask them how regularly they will be updating you.My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say

Most people really looking to buy in your area probably already called them.I was just wondering how long people leave between putting their house on the market and phoning the EA about interest, what they have been doing etc.

I'd ask them about the first week.0 -
I don't think it's ever too soon to call. You are likely to end up paying them thousands of pounds for selling your house, so why would they begrudge you calling up for a chat?0
