Hi All
A tenant living within my house wants my bank details so he can pay his rent weekly via a direct debit, this is a little new to me and I was wondering if it is safe to do so?
Any advice greatfully received.

It would be a standing order, and I pay my LL monthly this way - no hassle, no late payments, everyone happy!0

Thanks guys.
So is it safe to give my tenant my bank account number and sort code in order to setup a standing order?0 -
Yeah it is. Don't forget your sort code and account number are on every cheque that you write!!

Yes, I pay my rent like this as well. Have been doing for 3 years, no late payment, landlord is happy, I'm happy.0

As mentioned, these details are on your cheques.
Presumably, you thoroughly referenced your tenant before you gave them the keys to your property?

It would require some social engineering (and lapse security practises by your bank) to gain any advantage by having your sort code and account number - search for Jeremy Clarkson's encounter when he arrogantly published his details in the newspaper

I have little problem giving these details out to individuals however and it does make things easy, as suggested; a standing order removes the need to remember to pay your landlord.

Just set up a separate bank account solely for your rental.0
